X - Online Portfolio & Processing

NZD $2,995.00
  • Duration: 1 Hours

Based in Wellington, our Portfolio & Processing Masterclass guides you through the process of creating a photography portfolio showcasing your unique style and vision. This workshop is designed as a portfolio-builder: we will cover advanced processing techniques in both Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as working through the printing process. By the end of this Masterclass, you will have completed a handmade fine-art portfolio containing ten of your best prints. Professional photographers Richard Young and Ken Wright will be your tutors, giving both group and one-on-one support.

Both Ken and Richard have years of experience producing fine-art prints. They have managed art galleries in the past, and both regularly exhibit and sell their photography in galleries. Richard has worked with Lightroom for most of his career, and Ken—as both professional photographer and graphic designer—has mastered Photoshop. As a group, we will help you refine your portfolio from 30 images down to the ten strong images that best showcase your style.

This workshop is based in Plimmerton, Wellington, where we use a gallery space and conference room for tuition and individual work. Transportation for evening sunset shoots will be provided. The gallery conference space is within walking distance from Plimmerton Railway Station and local accommodation.

Using Lightroom and/or Photoshop, you will learn how to ready your images for printing on the Epson Surecolour P800. You will learn how to select the right Epson Signature Worthy Fine Art Paper for the look and finish that best suits your work for your final portfolio images. Finally, you will produce a ten-image portfolio to take home with you, displaying your photographic work and ability.

Please note: Accommodation is not included as part of this Masterclass, although we are happy to recommend or assist in finding accommodation. There are plenty of options in the area.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Meeting at the gallery, we begin the workshop by discussing your individual style and vision. This is an important step, as it will help focus your direction. Once this has been established, we can begin working through your 30 images to select ten you will move forward with.

The day is rounded out with an evening sunset shoot in Plimmerton, overlooking the iconic Mana Island.

DAY 2

Today, Richard will guide you through advanced Lightroom editing, which will help you to get the best out of your images and give them depth. Following Richard’s session, Ken will take you through advanced Photoshop editing, covering image layering and image masking.

We end the day with another evening sunset shoot—this time overlooking Kapiti Island.

DAY 3

The morning starts with a session on the aesthetics of fine-art printing and paper choices. This leads into the final development of your ten images, with plenty of one-on-one assistance from Richard and Ken.

In the evening, we have a group dinner (included) at an excellent local restaurant, enjoying social time with the group.

DAY 4

The final day of the workshop will see us focus on the printing of your fine-art portfolio. To begin, we will soft-proof your images, preparing them for printing. Then we will print your portfolio, featuring the overarching style and vision you have developed and highlighted in your ten selected photographs. These images will be displayed in a stunning, hand-made portfolio box for you to take home and exhibit. In the afternoon, a local picture framer (who has been framing Richard’s work for the last ten years) will join us to explain a little about framing and offer insight into the world of selling prints.

Please note: We keep the workshop itinerary flexible to allow for changes due to weather for our sunset shoots. We will try our best to visit both locations during the course of the workshop.
