Day 1 - Christchurch - Mt White Station
We will pick you up early from Christchurch to travel to Mt White Station at midday. After assembling at the lodge we will run through an introductory programme of advanced camera setup for landscape photography and tutorials on composition along with advanced topics such as hyperfocal distance for getting sharp photographs. Late afternoon, we will head out for our first 4WD unimog trip to the top of a nearby peak to shoot sunset across the stunning river braids.
Day 2 - Mt White Station
Headed out before sunrise in the unimog to capture sunrise over the mountains and Esk River. After breakfast head on to the Mound of Misery to spend the day exploring the mounds and the many photographic opportunities this remote area offers. Tonight we will shoot sunset with stunning views across the terraced high country landscapes with mountains and the Waimakariri River as a backdrop.
Day 3 - Mt White Station
After an early morning sunrise, we will then spend the morning in the lodge conference room to offer a group critique of the photographs from the last days and an in-depth post-production session covering the processing of landscape photographs. We will then help you process your two best images from the workshop and produce a finished 16x22" fine art print to take home. We will head out in the unimog to capture sunset returning to the best location on the station for the weather conditions.
Day 4 - Mt White Station - Tekapo
During our last sunrise shoot, we will capture some of the first morning light across surrounding mountains. We will depart the Station mid morning to head out to Castle Hill to photograph the strange and spectacular landscapes of this area before heading through to Tekapo finishing the day with Sunset over the famous Church of Good Shepherd.
Day 5 - Tekapo - Queenstown
This morning we will rise early to capture Sunrise over Lake Tekapo, after breakfast we will make our way to Queenstown, stopping on the way to capture views of Mt Cook across Lake Pukaki and then Lindis Pass. We will finish the day with sunset over Lake Wakatipu.
Day 6 - Queenstown - Milford - Te Anau
After departing from Queenstown, we take the Milford Highway up the Eglinton Valley. Winding through the mountains; past dark, brooding lakes and mossy beech forests, we arrive at Milford Sound, one of the country's most iconic locations. This afternoon we will take a cruise out on the Fjord to capture the area from another perspective, we will finish the day shooting sunset over a vista of Fiordland’s dramatic peaks before returning to our Te Anau accommodation.
Day 7 - Te Anau - Wanaka
This morning there will be an option for sunrise over Lake Te Anau, or to join a one and a half hour long helicopter flight (optional extra) over the Doubtful and Dusky Sounds to photograph from the mountains that rise above. This extra offers sublime aerial photography opportunities in the early morning light. After sunrise, we will make our way to Wanaka, driving over the Crown Range to the picturesque lakeside town. This afternoon we head out to explore views around lake Wanaka finishing the day with a sunset over the lake.
Day 8 - Wanaka
Sunrise will be shot at the lake’s edge, specifically at the famous Wanaka Tree, one of New Zealand’s most iconic vistas. This evening we head out in the hills around Wanaka for an 4WD adventure to capture sunset over the lake.
Day 9 - Wanaka - Fox Glacier
After sunrise over the famous Wanaka tree, we then depart for the West Coast, a community as remote as they come in New Zealand. En route, we shall photograph some of the countless stunning waterfalls throughout the Haast Pass. We stay the night in Fox Glacier, and tonight we head down to a coastal location to capture our first West Coast sunset.
Day 10 – Fox Glacier
This morning, we will photograph the sunrise at Lake Matheson, capturing the often-perfect reflections of Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman—New Zealand’s highest mountains. If the weather is right, you have the option (at additional cost) to take a helicopter flight onto the vast upper neve of the Fox Glacier for some unparalleled photo opportunities. This afternoon will see us heading out to the coast for sunset, with panoramic views of the Southern Alps rising beyond a sweeping extent of rainforest.
Day 11 - Fox Glacier - Punakaiki
This morning, we drive up the coast to Whataroa, stopping for a guided White Heron Sanctuary Tour; this is the only way to access the Waitangiroto Nature Reserve. Here, we will photograph the country's only nesting site for the beautiful White Herons (Kotuku), along with the Royal Spoonbill. Following this, we drive further up the coast with several stops en route, including the turquoise waters of the Hokitika Gorge. We reach Punakaiki and its famous Punakaiki rock formations in time for sunset.
Day 12 - Punakaiki - Christchurch
The day begins with an exploration of the exquisite limestone and river landscapes of Paparoa National Park. From here we head back to Christchurch through the famous Arthur’s Pass and stopping at the amazing boulder formation at Castle Hill on the way to our final destination, Christchurch.
