Light and Composition Masterclass – Maniototo 2025
- Duration: 5 Days
Based in Central Otago, our Maniototo Masterclass Workshop with Glen Howey & Ken Wright is designed as an ideal programme to expand your use of perspective and light in the landscape.. You will learn to master light in the landscape, from warm tones of dawn to the blue after dusk. We will also cover working with perspective to change how you present your subject within this vast landscape. Over the 5-days we will shoot a diverse range of subject matter including rugged mountains, lakes, rivers and rolling farmland and rustic buildings while exploring this remote location in 4WD vehicles.
Central Otago is described as a memorable feast for your senses. The landscape and stories are distinctively Central Otago, New Zealand, here the enormous untamed landscapes give you a sense of place and nature has its own sophistication as it quietly reveals its differences in subtle and unexpected ways.
Capture to Print Masterclass Workshop: Our Maniototo Masterclass offers a mixture of both tuition and post-processing sessions to help you create some stunning photographs on trips into some remote areas in the Central Otago high country. The workshop concludes with printing two of your best images as 16x22" fine art prints.

Later in the afternoon, we will explore more of the beautiful Central Otago Landscapes and set up for our first sunset at the base of Hawkdun Ranges.
DAY 2
The day begins with an early sunrise shoot at the iconic Wedderburn Railway Station before heading back to the Wedderburn hotel for breakfast. The rest of the day will be taken up alternating between locations in the area, including the historic Hayes Engineering Works and Homestead. Sunset this evening sees us venturing further afield to explore the beautiful Poolburn area.
DAY 3
This morning we capture sunrise across the Maniototo landscape. After breakfast, we spend the morning in the hotel conference room to offer some group critique of the photographs from the last 2 days and an in-depth post-production session covering the processing of landscape photographs. This afternoon we head to majestic St Bathans to explore this unique landscape and then capture sunset across Blue Lake.
